You may remember our previous report on the Google Lunar X Prize, which will see teams competing for more than 20 million US dollars of prize money for successfully landing a robotic vehicle on the moon and beaming back high definition video. Toy company LEGO has now taken up the ball and announced a mirror-challenge for the next generation of engineers:

The “Moonbots” Challenge allows teams of 6 to submit designs illustrating how they will build, program and operate their moon robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS robotic kits. Entering the contest will be free for teams across the globe. The best designs will be provided with free LEGOs to actually build and program their robots, and will then compete in challenges similar to the Lunar X Prize, but on a simulated "Moonscape."
