Autonomous Audi TTS "Shelley"

The autonomous Audi TTS "Shelley", which you may remember from our previous report, has completed her climb of Pikes Peak hill in 27 minutes, losing just 10 minutes on an aggressive and skilled human driver. To achieve this feat, the autonomous car developed by Volkswagen and Stanford climbed 1500 meters of dirt, asphalt and gravel roads through 156 turns. With the development of Shelley, Volkswagen aims at developing autonomous driving technologies that will be able to keep you safely on the road in the event of an emergency. To extend the cars capabilities to higher speeds, Stanford and Volkswagen are now tackling some traditional paved tracks at high speeds.
