A team of students at the ETH Zurich in Switzerland, have built a robot that can balance on a ball. The robot, unveiled at an event in Zurich two weeks ago and also shown at the Automatica trade fair, pushes the boundaries of current ballbots by allowing movements of speeds up to 3.5m/s and with inclinations up to 17 degrees. This allows it to perform unique movements, such as moving with high inclinations while simultaneously rotating around its vertical axis.
The student robot is developed in cooperation with Disney Research, who just opened their ETH Zurich branch earlier this year, and is meant to entertain and impress.
