CNet has a report on the world's first robotic bed: Electronics giant Panasonic has built the world's first robotic bed. The futuristic bed consists of a motorized base and a robotic canopy with a screen that acts as TV, controller for home appliances, and home security camera viewer. Users can remain in the bed while the canopy swings away and the top half of the mattress rises while the other half lowers, transforming the bed into a wheelchair. While in chair mode, the robot can detect people and obstacles and help users avoid collisions.
The robotic bed is another step in a Japan's ongoing efforts to use robotics to offer more freedom and independence to its rapidly aging population.
