Carnegie Mellon University has announced this year's inductees into their Robot Hall of Fame. The new members are
- NASA's Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity,
- iRobot Roomba,
- DaVinci Medical Robot System,
- Huey, Dewey, and Louie, from the 1971 film “Silent Running”,
- T-800 Terminator, from the 1984 film “The Terminator”.
For the second time in a row real robots outnumber fictional ones in what Matt Mason, director of Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute, calls the "beginning of a trend", because robots are increasingly "approaching or even exceeding performance levels that once were only imagined".
