Boston Dynamic's PETMAN robot

Massachussets-based company Boston Dynamics has released a first video of a prototype of its PETMAN robot designed to test chemical warfare suits. The robots key feature will be to imitate the same range and speed of motion as a human being, including motions as diverse as walking, running, climbing and crawling.

The video of the early proof-of-concept prototype shows a biped walking on a treadmill at speeds of 5.1 km per hour - well over Asimo's top walking speed, and nearly reaching Asimo's running speed. Like humans, the robot rolls over its heel when walking. And like Boston Dynamic's previous Big Dog robot, the PETMAN can keep its balance when shoved.
