Pixar Animation Studios has released it's latest animated film featuring a small waste collecting robot as it's unlikely hero. "Wall-E" has opened to rave reviews, shooting to #6 of IMDB's best movies of all times list and earning an incredible 96 % in it's "Rotten Tomatoes" rating. The Boston Globe writes: "The best American film of the year to date." The movie, which opened in the US last week-end, will come to Europe and Australia later this year.

4 Real-Life WALL*E Robots Cleaning Up After Nuke Waste

Postby Johnny 5 on 15 Jul 2008, 15:56

Cool story over at Popular Mechanics:

Much like the fictional cleaning robot currently packing movie theaters, robots are being used to clean humanity’s worst messes. At Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington State, where plutonium for Cold War nukes was made, robots are on the front line of the cleanup effort. The job is to empty about 150 basketball-court-sized tanks of nuclear and chemical waste before their contents reach the Columbia River. Exposure to the material would kill a human within moments. Sounds like a job for robots. Since there won’t be any attention from Pixar, we again salute the little guys going a bit beyond the iRobot Looj in their daring damage control.

I've seen previews for that and it looks so far out of our time. i wonder how long it would take for humans to build robots like that?

How do I make those animation pictures? I don't want something I have to buy though. Is there like a website where I can Make my own pictures into animation? By that I mean like flashing from picture to picture.

What was the song playing during the animation montage at the Oscars this year? The song was playing during the animation montage when Wall-E is looking at the tv and sees all the different animation movies of the year. It had an rock/electric sound to it. It sounded quite new.
