First 'Love Mode' Robot on Sale

First 'Love Mode' Robot on Sale

Postby Markus Waibel on 20 Jun 2008, 09:14

Japanese firm SEGA has produced a 38 cm tall robotic girlfriend that kisses on command. "EMA", which can also hand out business cards, dance and sing, is targeted at lonely adult men and will hit stores this September for around $175.

Here's some news from the press release (http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssLeis ... 2420080617):

Using her infrared sensors and battery power, the diminutive damsel named "EMA" puckers up for nearby human heads, entering what designers call its "love mode".

"Strong, tough and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that's sweet and interactive," said Minako Sakanoue, a spokeswoman for the maker, Sega Toys.

"She's very lovable and though she's not a human, she can act like a real girlfriend."

Looks like SEGA is not the only company trying to retail this bot ... check out Wowwee's Femisapien robot (http://www.robotsrule.com/html/femisapien.php), due to hit stores end of summer 2008:
